Kart Coach News
Shenington (20/21 February)
Connor Gibbs (Junior Rotax):
Connor produced some promising times during Saturday and he capitalised on these in the first heat on Sunday, finishing 11th. An accident in the second heat meant he had to start the final at the back of the grid. Unfortunately, the final didn’t turn out exactly as planned, but Connor still fought till the end, finishing 27th. We look forward to Connor bouncing back next weekend at Whilton Mill.
Sol Boyles (Comer Cadet):
This was Sol’s first visit to Shenington, who had come all the way from Ireland for this event, but he quickly got down to some respectable times on Saturday. Two consistent heats on Sunday enabled him to qualify straight to the A Final. Some great scraps and courageous driving earned him–a very credible 25th .A fine result considering everything was new to him. Sol enjoyed his first weekend with kart coach and assures us he will be back again very soon.
Tom Wood (Comer Cadet):
Once again, 8yr old novice Tom Wood distinguished himself among the cadet grid of over 50 karts. Tom set his personal best time during Saturday testing and proved his speed was no fluke in the second heat setting a time good enough for the top eight. Not bad for a novice who has only done 4 races! Narrowly missing out on second place in the B Final, Tom still easily qualified to the A. After a fantastic start, Tom was surely heading for a mid-grid finish, but a spin at the chicane ruined his chances. Nonetheless, after this he was on fire, reeling in the backmarkers at an astonishing rate, when a three kart skirmish in sight of the chequered flag resulted in a lost chain and finishing in a disappointing 29th place. Nonetheless, Tom was pleased to win yet another novice trophy, and is looking forward to Whilton Mill next week where he hopes to graduate to full plates and enjoy some scraps near the front end of the grid.
Whilton Mill (27/28 February)
Tom Wood (Comer Cadet):
Tom showed immense promise in changeable weather conditions, coming home an excellent 20th; a very encouraging result on his full plate debut.
James Webb (Mini Max):
Consistently good results in all 3 heats put James in eighth spot for the final. Contact at the start demoted him to 9th; a position which he held gallantly until two laps from home when James finally succumbed to pressure. However, 12th place in a packed Minimax field is an encouraging result in only his 3rd race in this class.
Connor Gibbs (Junior Rotax):
Connor endured a difficult weekend but made great strides in his race craft, giving us wonderful entertainment as he battled tooth and nail to secure some close finishes.
A massive junior max field and a lack of experience relegated him to the B final. Connor came home a disappointed 12th, & unfortunately he didn’t make it to the A. Connor will be eager to redress the situation next month.
Jake Dobson (Junior Max):
Solid results in heats one and two, plus 5th place in the 3rd heat, gave us a glimpse of Jake’s potential. Unfortunately, contact at the start of the final resulted in a lost chain, a DNF & another entry in the ‘if only’ book! However, Jake has found some useful speed this weekend, and will be putting that to good effect next month.
Graham Roberts (Senior Max):
Graham showed amazing promise in the final session of Saturday testing, but unfortunately a number of on-track skirmishes on race day blunted his performance. Finishing 16th in the final from the back of the grid was poor reward for all his efforts over the weekend. However Graham is becoming a more complete driver with every meeting and will no doubt figure much higher in future results.
